Photo: left, Peach tree: right, Beech treeTalk about being a tree hugger, when I first learned how to identify different tree species I used to take notes and draw the shapes of the leaves in the field. I remember going to a family friends house with a huge backyard and many different species of trees. I was out there in the sun for hours checking and identifying trees (I can’t help it only once you start Tree ID you will feel the thrill
Anyways, the owner saw my interest and he told me that he planted two trees but one of them didn’t bear any fruits and he was thinking about cutting this “bad tree” (istaghfirullah! you can have good and bad people but trees are only gooooood!). So I asked him where he planted his fruit trees. He led me to the middle of his huge backyard and pointed an apple tree with fruits. He then pointed to another tree saying “see brother no Bbeaches!” I looked at the tree and found that the guy had planted a Beech tree, not a peach tree.
BAM! It hit me right then and there. The guy must have asked in his heavy accent if they had any “peach (BEACH)” trees and the gardener understood it to be a beech tree therefore, he sold him a perfectly fine beech tree.
I told the family my understanding of beech and peach tree scenario and they all just laughed. So anyone out there planning a tree, go for an apple tree.
