Walk For Humanity at Rutgers Univ.

HDP’s Walk For Humanity
Come Support Research for Multiple Sclerosis!

Sunday, April 22, 2007
10:45am – 2:30pm
College Avenue, Rutgers Univ.

Mr. Faraz speaks out!
(((5 min. audio)))

We had a mixed crowd of Jewish and Muslim students on the steps of Brower Commons to take part in HDP’s Walk for Humanity. The weather was great and the participants were very cordial. Rabbi Esther Reed, Associate Director for Jewish Campus Life and I (Muslim Chaplain, Rutgers University) gave a brief lecture on coming together as children of Adam and working for common good.

The students were very helpful and jubilant (I think it was the sun energizing them). I hope and pray that in the future more Muslim students participate in these community events. I believe we (Muslims) are over dosed with lectures. We like to sit back, relax, while a speaker entertain us with his knowledge. Not much effort on our part! :)

I feel that we need to come out of the classroom. Life is experienced outside the lecture hall. Thus, I hope and pray that Muslims on campus can move the mission of the Prophet (s) forward. Please do your part and represent the Umma of the Prophet (s) in doing the good work.

Recitation of al-Fatiha – Nuh – ikhlas

The recitation was edited to have hafs qirat only. However, there are ayat that are still in this video on different styles of recitation (namely warsh). I plan on teaching a short tajweed course with the help of Sh. Sharief Elgamel and others to students on Rutgers University. Please drop me a comment if you are interested.

Lets Change the World!

Posted by admin On April - 2 - 2007

How many times have you heard that phrase “lets change the world make it a better place”? Personally, I am exhausted of all the verbosity. I believe that the most difficult thing is to change oneself. If a person has success in changing one’s life (deen), than he/she can affect other people’s life in a positive manner.

People of Heart (spiritual path), have it all mapped out.

The journey begins with
iman (faith) and tawba (repentance).
ilm (knowledge) is like milestones on the path.
A person needs istiqama (steadfastness) on this path to righteousness.
it is a constant mujahida (struggle) against one’s desire/external matters.
To overcome these ibtala (trials) one needs taqwa (being mindful of God).
Taqwa is gained through ta’ah (obedience to God).
He/she seeks comfort in sabr (patience) shukr (gratitude).
To walk the path of God one needs to balance raja’ (hope/trust in God) and khawf (fear).

But even going through all of this one doesn’t become people of God except…. with the help/mercy of God.

iyaka na’budu (You alone we worship)
wa iyaka nasta’een (and You alone we seek assistance from).
