wasSalam Rabia,

inshAllah, we could discuss this matter. I like the idea behind gererationIslam.com. ISCJ Rt. 1 mosque has an active group 'MuslimByChoice.org' you may want to check with them. Also, InshAllah i will be teaching a 3 month course to converts via MECCA. I believe they will start March 11th. It is a class on everyday fiqh (practical) for converts.

wasSalam,
faraz

b u r r a a q @ g m a i l

There you go, generationIslam.com is making it happen, mashAllah. Kudos to my brothers and sisters on this project.

I am also working on a similar project with the theme of generation Islam but it's more about Muslim identity and pop culture. It is going to be a series of online short films.

MUSTAFA,
you are right about intention and work. It is so important to do for God and not get caught up with people. But keep doing what you are doing - you shine like a star :)

wasSalam,
faraz

Assalamu alaikum, good insights into pop culture. However, there's a trend I'm seeing that worries me somewhat. Alhamdulillah it's exponentially better than someone trying to be a wannabe thug, but a lot of people I noticed are making Islam their pop culture. I'm not saying they're making ISLAM their CULTURE, but I mean, they're taking Islam only at an artificial level. I think I've done this myself at some time or another, like using Islam only for its social aspect, or to justify doing what I like doing. Like, it's so "cool" and "hip" to be Muslim, so I can go up on stage and do stand up comedy and make people laugh. But what is my true intention? Is it to cheapen this Islamic culture by bringing it down to a level just to have an event where I make my hijabi sisters and kufi wearing rolled up pants wearing brothers laugh? I just think we need to realize why we're doing certain things before we let them become happy go lucky practices. There will come a time when people will say "Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim" and not even know why they're saying it: just because they're fathers did. Subhanallah.
