God does not like … Allahu la yuhibbu…
In Qur’an the word hub (love) or its derivitives are used many times. Now why am I taking about the concept of love? Well! listening to the Koran, it hit me that God always uses “Allahu la yuhibbu…” that God does not like such and such act. Why doesn’t He says: God hates (yabghadu) such and such or hates so and so. The antonym for hub (love) is bughd/karh (hate). Why doesn’t He affirms that He hates rather ‘does not like’ or ‘does not love’. He uses both words bughd/karh (hate/dislike) and their derivitives to describe humans relationship with others but not God’s relationship with them. The more I thought about it, the more anxious I grew from this (hub) love trouble.
The short answer I believe is that God does not hate anyone. He only despises evil actions. For example, wallahu la yuhibbu kulla mukhtalin fakhur – God does not love any vainglorious boaster. God is too exalted to hate. He is full of mercy and wisdom. For this reason, He didn’t show hatred for people but rather for their sinful actions. In the entire Koran one cannot find the statement that God hates so and so. For this reason, He wants us not to carry hate, but rather to call others with true love of God.

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned 10 causes that result in Allah’s love for His slave and the slave’s love for his Lord…
1. Recite the Qur’an while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it.
2. Get closer to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadith Qudsi: “My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him.” [al-Bukhari]
3. Continue the remembrance of Allah under all circumstances, with one’s tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one’s love of Allah is determined by this.
4. Give precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires.
5. Keep the heart dedicated to Allah’s Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge.
6. Observe Allah’s kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open.
7. Maintain the heart to remain soft, subdued and meek before Allah.
8. Be alone with Allah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting.
9. Sit with the beloved and sincere, benefitting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others.
10. Remain away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allah.
Insha’Allah these 10 causes will take the lovers to the station of true love and bring them to their Beloved.
Masha’Allah excellent post
