This weekend I am taking my art workshop to Wesleyan University, Conn. I have given a talk a few years ago on the Islamic Environmental Ethics. The program is organized and sponsored by the MSA and the Muslim Chaplain Marwa Aly. During my last visit to Wesleyan University two things impressed me enough that I am willing to send my child to Wesleyan over any Ivy league schools – innovation & critical thinking. The students at Wesleyan have been nurtured with the concept of ‘the next big idea’ and ‘don’t be afraid to explore’. I might be bias but my experience at some of the top notch programs (I have given talks at least 20 different colleges) has been that students are afraid of looking ’stupid’ in front of their colleagues. They shy away from drawing any attention to themselves…
Anyways, I am taking my Contemporary Islamic Art show to Wesleyan University and looking forward to some really innovative approach to modern Islamic art.
